Ultimate Tuvi is played with a few basic rules:
- Objective: The goal is to score points by catching the Tuvi ball in the opposing team’s end zone.
- Teams: Each team consists of seven players in outdoor play and five players in indoor play.
- Starting Play: The game begins with a “pull,” where one team throws the Tuvi to the other to start play.
- Movement: Players cannot run while holding the Tuvi. They must establish a pivot foot and can only move that foot while throwing.
- Passing: The Tuvi can be passed in any direction. If the pass is incomplete (e.g., dropped, intercepted, or goes out of bounds), the opposing team gains possession.
- Scoring: A point is scored when a player catches the Tuvi in the opponent’s end zone.
- Turnovers: A turnover occurs when a team fails to complete a pass, when the Tuvi is intercepted, or when it goes out of bounds.
- Fouls: Players are responsible for their own actions and must self-officiate. If a player believes a foul has occurred, they can call it, and play stops until the issue is resolved.
- Time Limits: Games are typically played to a set number of points (usually 15) or within a time limit (often 20 or 25 minutes per half).
- Substitutions: Players can substitute after a point is scored or during an injury timeout.
